Note: The City has abandoned this plaza in recent years and it has a terrible drug problem. One mom's toddler picked up a broken glass drug vial on the street by the park. Update 2024: Now that the Boise law has been overturned, people are being arrested finally.
Emerson Park takes up a city block in the Old Town Historic District, and is located just a block from the main streets of downtown San Luis Obispo! The playground is a toddler playground, small and cute, with green and orange colors, a tunnel, a tiny slide, a spinner, an igloo, and flower sculptures. There are great views of historic houses and trees. A complicated-looking workout area looks interesting to try out. It is called Fitness Court, and is a full body circuit training center with seven movement zones that allow for hundreds of exercises. There is also a community garden with sunflowers, dahlias, tall flowers that attract bees and little birds, squash, and colorful sights. Check out the sweet church across the street, Saint Stephens Episcopal Church (open Sunday 8am and 10am). Walk along Pismo Street to see its adorable Victorian houses and gardens.
While in SLO, don't miss out on the most amazing playground of all at Sinsheimer Park. Another good playground in a pretty setting is Islay Park.
Emerson Park is located at 1316 Beach St, San Luis Obispo CA 93401. You can park along the road.
