It's wonderful to walk the wooden boardwalk that hugs the coastline at Fiscalini Ranch Preserve in Cambria. You are high above the ocean with waves crashing on the rocks below. Daisies and buttercups line the path, though the area is mostly dry scrub and many of the flowers are dried out. It always surprises me how dry it can be despite all the fog. The one-mile-long boardwalk begins at 4605 Windsor Blvd and ends in the south at 2701 Sherwood Drive.
Other than the oceanfront path, there are other dirt paths that crisscross the bluff, and some have views of the ocean from even higher up. Some go through a misty forest of tall skinny trees and tree stumps at the top of the hill. If you want to start at the forest, begin at the Tipton Entrance at the dead end of Tipton Street, or the Trenton Entrance, 2669 Trenton Ave. The views are wonderful from up high, and we also saw two deer close up. This neighborhood has sunny patches even when the oceanfront has thick fog.
In the neighborhood nearby, Seaclift Estates, it's lovely to stand at the dead end of Bryan Pl and Devault Pl to see the gorgeous views over rocky coves. Bright purple ice plant blankets the cliffs in spring. What a joy!
At the end of Windsor Blvd there is a bluff trail with crisscrossing paths covering a mesa. Enjoy the ocean views and cool breezes while you exercise!
Walk north and you will come to Shamel Park and Moonstone Beach where there is a nice playground. Further north, you will reach the Moonstone Beach Boardwalk, across from the hotels.
For expensive restaurants in historic buildings, check out Cambria town.
The wooden clifftop boardwalk starts at 4605 Windsor Blvd and ends at 2701 Sherwood Dr, Cambria. There are a few parking spots at both ends.
