Heritage Square Park is a lovely spot where people gather after school and on the weekend to see their neighbors and relax. It has a large lush lawn, tall tropical trees, and an attractive bandstand. Summer concerts (Sun 1-3 pm, July to Sept) are full to the brim with people enjoying the cool breeze that blows in off the ocean far away. A cute toddler playground like a farm truck gives the kids something to do. And couples can take a walk on the paths around the park and on the somewhat disheveled streets lined with historic cottages with sweet gardens. In October, families admire the Halloween decorations on the cottages.

Adjacent to the park are four historical buildings that are interesting: a library in a beautiful house, the historical society house filled with dolls and old-fashioned decor, a barn full of old agricultural machinery, and a musty old schoolhouse with a pretty steeple. Here you can cross the swinging bridge over the creek lush with vegetation to the main street, Branch Street, called Arroyo Grande Village. Branch Street is also bustling after school. Have a delicious mini cone at Rori's Artisanal Creamery. Then browse the adorable bookstore, Monarch Books.
On Thursdays 1-3pm a large group of ukulele singers gather to practise in the bandstand and a few people sit with folding chairs on the lawn watching. The Central Coast Ukulele Festival is held here in May.
Because of its proximity to the fog layer in Grover Beach, Arroyo Grande is often overcast, but the sun arrives around 11am.
For a playground a four minute drive away, with a medium-sized playground, toddler playground, swings, baby swings, colorful basketball court, soccer field, gorgeous lawn, and beautiful redwood, sycamore, and magnolia trees, check out Strother Park
