Strother Park is a four minute drive inland from the main area of Arroyo Grande Village. It feels a bit deserted even though it's a beautiful park. There is a medium-sized playground with a cute curvy tunnel up high and double slides, a toddler playground, swings, and baby swings, though not many kids. A huge lawn with a colorful painted basketball court, and tall magnolia, sycamore, and redwood trees make this a beautiful park. There is also a soccer field. At the far end, near the loop of the parking lot, are concrete picnic tables and a BBQ pit, above the creek.
Nearby, you can drive uphill to the two different sections of Terra de Oro Park, that have to be reached from two different sides. These are just two empty lots with a dirt path in between. Terra de Oro Park hasn't really been developed, but there are good views as you drive to it.
If you'd like a park with a happier, safer feeling because there are more people, head to Heritage Square Park, which families walk to from Branch Street. It has a cute toddler playground, but no playground for big kids.
After, have an ice cream at Rori's (they have indoor and outdoor seating) or a treat at Mule Bakery (outdoor seating only) in Arroyo Grande Village. It's also fun to browse Monarch Books, which is very attractive and has a good kids section.
Strother Park is located at 1150 Huasna Rd, Arroyo Grande. There is a large parking lot.
