Highland Park is a gorgeous little spot. At the top is a tiny playground with views of the ocean. Then there's a sloped lawn that goes way down the hillside. It's a lot of fun for kids to run down the lawn as it just keeps going and going! Bring some cardboard to slide down. At the bottom there is a world of marvelous pampas grass. Kids can use a stalk as a lightsaber or tickle each other with the feathery ends of the grass. Our family had a blast at this park. There are also some wonderful shady picnic areas with clean BBQs. At the bottom of the park, you can take the stairs up to La Garza Lane and walk the streets, admiring the palm trees and Spanish-style houses.
Another inspiring spot nearby is Shell Beach Panoramic Walk, where pelicans perch on steep cliffs above the sea.
A beautiful park with a lush lawn, tall tropical trees, and a cute toddler playground seven minutes drive east is Heritage Square Park. From there you can walk over a swinging bridge to get ice cream on the main street.
From Highway 101, exit at 4th St and turn toward the mountains on 4th Street. Turn left on James Way and then right on Highland Dr. Turn right on Whitecap Street and park along the road.
For your GPS you can use the address 91 Whitecap St, Pismo Beach CA 93449.
