Morro Bay Maritime Museum in Morro Bay is a tiny, outdoor museum that is fun to visit! Both kids and adults enjoy it. There is a little walkway and on both sides are different boats and displays. The boats are well-taken care of and the information is very interesting. The location is the far end of a parking lot, with cypress and eucalyptus trees and views of Morro Rock and the bay. Across the street is the Sea Otter Nursery, where you can often see baby sea otters and their mothers. There is a good bakery in the same parking lot called La Parisienne. Try their cream of broccoli soup!
From here you can walk north past the fish cafes to Coleman Park where the Harborwalk begins. This is often a cold walk, but you can usually see sea otters along the way. At the end you reach Morro Rock! You can explore the sheltered side of it, with amazing views of the rock, cactus, a sculpture of a boy fishing, rock cairns, and a tiny beach with sand dollars. Or on the righthand side of the end of Coleman Drive, you can explore Morro Rock Beach, an exhilarating place to watch surfers brave the wild sea from the short promenade above the beach.
Morro Bay Maritime Museum is located at 1210 Embarcadero, Morro Bay, CA 93442. It is located at the far end of the parking lot, toward Morro Rock.
Open Thurs-Mon 10-3. Closed Tues and Wed.
Entry is free, with $5 donation requested.
