Mother and baby sea otters play in the shelter of a smaller T pier south of the larger Morro Bay T Pier. They are very close by as you stand on the boardwalk and it's wonderful to watch them! You can see them spin and spin, getting bubbles into their fur. The mothers even teach the babies to swim, pushing them away to be more independent!
There are also some seals that hang out on the back of boats that are docked by Morro Bay T Pier. You have to walk to the righthand end of the pier to see them. It's interesting to watch them fight for a place on the boat! They make boisterous noises that kids can appreciate!
After, have a slice of pie with custard and apricot layers at La Parisienne Bakery, with views of Morro Rock.
Check out the Morro Bay Maritime Museum, a tiny outdoor museum, on the other side of the parking lot. Kids love it.
Or walk past the fish cafes to Coleman Park where the long boardwalk called Harborwalk begins. If the sea otters aren't at the smaller T-shaped pier, they are usually found along the Harborwalk, on your left. You can walk from here all the way to Morro Rock and see the surfers brave the cold water at Morro Rock Beach.
Morro Bay T Pier and the sea otter nursery are located at 1185 Embarcadero, Morro Bay, CA 93442. There is a large parking lot in front of La Parisienne Bakery.
