It's idyllic in the afternoon in Arroyo Grande, when the sun has come out and it's windstill. A great place to come is Rancho Grande Playground, where you will find three slides lined up together where kids can race, a twisty slide, monkey bars, and swings, all situated on a sandy floor. There are usually plenty of other kids playing, so your child can easily find a friend. This park is situated up high in the hills of Arroyo Grande, which makes for a nice feeling. It is also more sheltered and warm than parks closer to the water. In fall, the leaves on the trees are bright orange and red.

Another warm and sheltered park that feels like paradise in the afternoon is Chumash Park, nearby, and also along James Way. It has an incredible playground.
After playing at Rancho Grande, drive four minutes south to have a burger at In-N-Out Burger, which has nice outdoor seating and indoor seating by a window, and then shop at Walmart.
A beautiful park with a lush lawn, tall tropical trees, and a cute toddler playground four minutes drive east is Heritage Square Park. From there you can walk over a swinging bridge to get ice cream on the main street.
