Rocky Nook Park is a peaceful wooded place away from the crowds and the street. The driveway winds up and up, and all along it are private picnic areas. At the top, there's a well-kept small playground with swings. To the right of the playground, there are some huge boulders overlooking a flowing creek. In front of the playground are some large rocks for kids to climb and have a blast. There are plenty of sticks to play imaginative games with. Behind the playground is a short circular hike which is pleasant to do at lunchtime- it only takes about five minutes!
Because it's so secluded, sometimes vagabond types hang out here, and seem to be living in their cars. Come with a friend so you feel safe.
Just around the corner is Santa Barbara Mission- check it out, and enjoy its gorgeous rose garden! For a walk through a beautiful neighborhood, try the Garden Street walk.
If you're hungry, head to Flavor of India (a four minute drive), an Indian restaurant with a delicious lunch buffet and nice outdoor seating under Indian umbrellas.
Rocky Nook Park is located at 610 Mission Canyon Rd, Santa Barbara CA 93105.
From Highway 101, exit at Mission St. If coming from the freeway northbound, turn right at the exit. If southbound, turn left. Follow Mission Street for a mile and then turn left on Garden Street. Turn right on Los Olivos and continue straight past the mission. Take the left fork after the mission. The park will come very soon on your right. Go slow so you don't miss it! There's a big wooden sign at the driveway.
There are restrooms.

This is a nice short loop hike for a family with kids. The scenery is OK but nothing spectacular. We didn't see any wildlife. It was busy when we walked on a weekend in May. Restrooms and picnic tables were available near the playground.)
