Jetty Park is a wonderful place to come soak up some beauty. Walk to the end of the jetty, where fishermen cast rods over the blue water. Listen to the water splash on the rectangular cement slabs that make up the jetty. Watch the pelicans dive bomb to catch fish, or the little birds sprint by. Sometimes there is a barge and tugboat working to dredge the inlet, making some fumes that you have to dodge. There is fresh air at the end of the jetty though. Kids like to watch the barge and tugboat.

Walk from the end of the jetty along the waterfront path, called the Linear Park. There isn't much shade but there are shaded swinging benches and plenty of yellow wildflowers in the grass. It's a very pretty scene! Across the inlet you can see Fort Pierce State Park, a lovely forest on the water. I hope they will plant rows of coconut trees along this path, like at Dubois Lagoon in Jupiter, so that one can walk in the shade. The walk from the end of the jetty to Manatee Island Grill, where the path ends, is half a mile.
After, have a drink or meal overlooking the water at Square Grouper Tiki Bar- it has a spacious area with plastic tables spread way apart under coconut trees on the water. Don't miss admiring the pretty architecture of the Coast Guard Station as you drive by 900 Seaway Drive.
Further west, on Seaway Drive, a great place to go is the Smithsonian Aquarium, a small but well-cared-for aquarium in an area fronting the lagoon, with a white sand river beach, playground, and walking path past bright turquoise waters filled with arching dolphins. Behind the aquarium is the St Lucie County History Museum, a memorable museum where you will learn a ton of interesting things!
Also check out downtown Fort Pierce, which has a wonderful coffee shop with attractive decor called Old Florida Coffee Co. It's wonderful to sip a cup of tea while looking out their picture windows.
The town of Fort Pierce, from the freeway to the coast, is quite ugly, but once you get to the water, things improve. Overall, this is a poor area, and you won't find anything ritzy.
From Jetty Park, you can take Highway A1A south for twenty minutes past many beaches, the nuclear plant, and then have a meal at upscale Hutchinson Shores Resort at Jensen Beach, in their restaurant on the water called Drift Kitchen. The views of the waves are wonderful and the food is good.
