Kiplinger Nature Preserve offers a one-mile loop trail to the river and through the forest. It is a varied walk with a crushed shell path, some muddy spots, a wooden boardwalk through mangrove, a raised wooden platform over mud, and lots of wildflowers! Kids always spark up when they are in wild nature like this! When you reach the river you come to a dodgy metal dock with views of the concrete Veterans Memorial Bridge. Extend your outing by exploring Delaplane Preserve Park as well, just a six minute drive south. Come on a cold, winter day to avoid mosquito bites.

Shepard Park is another nice spot on the river. It is a nine minute drive north and has a playground.
Another nice walk is the River Boardwalk near Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens, but it is a longer drive away (25 minutes).
