Treasure Coast Wildlife Center is located in the countryside on a beautiful piece of land in Palm City. There is a long white sand driveway through pine forest, a pond with tropical vegetation around it, a giant tree with a vine, and lovely tall palms. In several cages, you can see many different animals. The pelicans have the nicest cage, which is open to the sky, and has fun things for them to do like a ramp. The giant tortoises are also cool, and have a nice low-fenced enclosure, plus yummy-looking snacks of big vegetables. There is a beautiful eagle with the most regal look- he lost his foot somehow. He looks at you. There is a young alligator, gopher tortoises (one has a home in a sideways ceramic pot), and turtles. The saddest cage was the one with owls and large birds whose feet are tied down with chains, so that they can't fly or walk around. I feel like they should have their separated areas where they can walk around so they don't have to be chained.
Beside the pond, you can often see a medium-sized wild alligator hanging out! He looked quite mysterious the day we saw him, lazing by the Spanish moss.
This wildlife center takes the animals to fairs and schools to show them to children. They also have an animal hospital on the property.
Afterward, drive 9 minutes east to have a long and wonderful walk at Halpatiokee Park! It has a long hike through the pine forest and through jungle beside the river, plus a cement path with sign posts of pages from a book that kids can read as they walk along. Kids also love the playground.
If you like wildlife centers, there is another one in Jupiter called Busch Wildlife Sanctuary.
Open daily 8:30-4:30. There are clearly marked parking spots near the end of the driveway. Donations accepted.
The address is 8626 SW Citrus Blvd, Palm City, FL 34990.
