Where Avalon Parade and Old Barrenjoey Rd intersect are a cluster of upmarket shops and cafes that are a pleasure to get to know. You can find a sunny table at a sidewalk cafe, or grab a gelato at Chill Bar and stroll along. There is a library and community center where people come and go to an abundance of activities. Here you can find clean restrooms. Dunbar Park, next door, has a playground with some shade trees. A retro movie theater adds to the coolness of this area. There is an independent bookstore. Best of all, you can walk just a few steps across Barrenjoey Rd and you are Avalon Beach. You have it all here! I would think that Avalon Beach Backpackers Hostel would be an amazing place to be based.
My favorite cafe at Avalon Parade is La Banette Patisserie, where you can get a delicious treat and enjoy a sea breeze to boot!
Avalon Fresh is a deli with the most delicious passionfruit yogurt you've ever tasted. Stop there and pick up some groceries.
Avalon Charcoal Chicken (also called Lilydale) has super good chips (french fries)!
Avalon Parade is like a mini-walkable city with beach, movies, cafes, bakeries, shops, library, all steps away.
Avalon Parade shops run perpendicular to Avalon Beach. From Barrenjoey Rd, turn away from the ocean on Avalon Parade and park along the road or on one of the side streets.
You can catch the L90 bus, which runs from the city to Palm Beach, stopping here. It comes every half hour.
