At the base of gorgeous Pier 60, set back a little, is Pier 60 Park. It is a huge lawn lined with canary palms and silver palms. In the center is a playground on fine, white sand, with a big and toddler playground shaded by huge canopies. There are two space nets, for your climbing delight! A statue of Theodoros Griego (the first Greek man in Florida), holding an anchor and pointing, adds interest to the park. There are also some bungee jumping rides, a remnant of the old Clearwater Beach before the modern highrise resorts.
After, walk to the end of the pier to see the fishermen waiting their catch. Or stroll along the shore of Clearwater Beach admiring the tiny, clear waves.
If you walk toward the intracoastal, you can get a cup of tea and egg bagel at Caffeinated Bakery.
There are plenty of beach gear shops with souvenirs on Coronado Drive, including Ron Jon Surf Shop across the street from the park.
Kids will also love Weaver Park Playground in Dunedin, a forested playground across from the intracoastal, with an owl-theme. It is a 16 minute drive north, with some traffic usually.
Pier 60 Park is located at 40 Coronado Drive. There is a large beach parking lot. Come early as it fills up.
