Weaver Park, Dunedin

Weaver Park is a lovely forest-themed playground. It is situated along the wonderful Pinellas Trail bike path, so you can watch as people zoom by. There are tons of trees for shade. Across the street is the calm blue water, St. Joseph Sound, and you can walk to the end of a long pier. Look around you at the wide open expanses of sky and water, and see all the different birds puttering around in the shallow water.

Kids love the playground. There is a mushroom picnic table, a dragonfly see-saw, and a butterfly-shaped climbey. There's a large caterpillar, and swings with owls above. An ant hill is fun to climb inside, as is a giant egg. The main play structure is like a tree and you can climb stairs to the top which is like a tree house. Underneath there's a bear! And along the side of the "tree" are engravings of animals such as squirrels.
After you've had enough outdoor time, head over to Dunedin Fine Art Center to enjoy their imaginative kid's room, packed with high-tech things to do, and their delicious cafe.
There is a lovely walk that hugs the St. Joseph Sound just south of here on Edgewater Drive. Also nice is Main Street, where you can find many cafes, coffee shops, gift shops, bike shops, artist studios, sculptures, and a long bike path that cuts through it. Nearby, check out the boats and festive feeling at Dunedin Marina. 
If you want the beach but don't want the crowds and dowdy arcades of Clearwater- which you probably don't if you like places like Dunedin- head to Sand Key Beach Park. It's a slightly longer drive but worth it for its unspoiled nature. It takes half an hour by car from Main Street. Kids love the sand here which is great for building, and the calm, shallow water to play in.
