California Missions

Some people visit all 21 missions, from San Diego to Sonoma! So far I have only been to 7 of them, but I plan to visit them all!

Mission San Buenaventura

A pristine mission, a gorgeous square, all backed by the blue-green mountains. In Ventura, between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, along the coast.

Mission Santa Barbara

Beautiful Spanish-Indian architecture, a chapel, a view of the ocean and rose garden, and a museum. In the stunning seaside town of Santa Barbara.

La Purisima Mission, Lompoc

A salmon-pink mission set among gorgeous countryside with little rooms that transport you to the 1820s. Excellent visitor center. North of Santa Barbara.

Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa and Plaza

Spanish mission from late 18th century, in downtown San Luis Obispo, with giant roses and grapevines in the garden behind and a lively plaza in front. 15 minutes from the ocean.

Carmel Mission

A rustic yet glorious mission, with fantastic gardens, near Monterey, an incredibly beautiful seaside town to visit.
