Crooked River Preserve has shady white sand walking paths, which is valuable here in Clermont because there aren't many shady places to walk. It is located on beautiful Lake Louisa Rd. The trails aren't marked on google maps and the map on the sign at the entrance to the trails is worthless, so I'm not sure where the different colored trails all lead, though apparently you can walk 1.7 miles here in a loop. We had a pleasant enough walk. I like this white white sand that you find on trails throughout Florida. You are on the Lake Wales Ridge, which was an island in the ancient seas.
After our walk, the scenery was nice when we checked out the canoe launch area. The cypress trees submerged in the water looked cool. There are some little wildflowers along the path.
There are ant nests on the ground so wear closed-toe shoes and keep moving.
This spot is not terribly thrilling and it's better if you can do the drive along Lakeshore Drive, a gorgeous spot. Also nice is 8th Street Pier in Downtown Clermont but you have to come at sunset, on a rainy/cloudy day, or early in the morning because there is not much shade for walking.
If you're looking for another shady place to walk in Clermont, the only other one I found was Lake Hiawatha Preserve, but it is more of a walking path on a disc golf area than a hiking trail. It is very beautiful though and definitely shady.
Crooked River Preserve is located at 11121 Lake Louisa Rd, Clermont, FL 34711. Parking is free and there are a few parking stalls that are shady too. There is a restroom.
