Lake Worth Beach is a fun beach with everything a holiday beach should have: pier, promenade, restaurants on the dune, restaurant on the pier, ice cream shop, playground with a view. During the "season" when many New Yorkers and other northerners come to escape the winter for ten weeks or more, the beach is packed with people and brightly colored sun umbrellas. This beach is rare for Florida in that there are restaurants (such as Mulligan's Beach House Bar and Grill) with gorgeous ocean views because they are up on a dune. The historical 1920 casino building (recently rebuilt) holds these restaurants and it's nice to enjoy its turret and pretty architecture. There is an ice cream/chocolate shop called Kilwin's plus a pizza cafe called Mamma Mia's, and a public pool with views down on the town below. The pier also is lovely: it provides shade underneath it where you can sit in the sand, plus a restaurant with fantastic views and live music, Benny's on the Beach. Along the beach is a promenade where many people enjoy the scene from benches or stroll along. It's wonderful to eat at Mulligan's and enjoy the perfect blue-green views of the ocean. You can't beat this beach for its lively atmosphere! It's worth it to pay the $1 to go on the pier. You can see hundreds of fish, and sometimes beautiful moon jellies. We even saw a shark! Come on a weekend afternoon and have a picnic on the lawn outside Benny's on the Beach, and enjoy the live music, or have a drink at the bar.
Also in Lake Worth is the main strip, Lake and Lucerne Avenues, where you can enjoy a meal and stroll around at night. Bryant Park has a walking path on the intracoastal waterway but a slightly seedy feel. Lantana Beach, just a few minutes south of here, has clear water, a restaurant with ocean view, and a relaxed atmosphere. And Lantana town has a cool little Finnish bakery in its main strip.
For a more secluded beach, check out Phipps Ocean Park, less than two miles to the north of the pier. Near it is a casual place to eat, Al Fresco Restaurant, with gorgeous ocean views!
Exit Highway 95 at 10th Ave and head toward the ocean. Turn right on US Hwy 1 and then left on Lake Ave. Follow it over the bridge and to the end where you there is a large parking lot. You have to pay for parking in the machines with bills or credit card. Sometimes there's quite a long line of people waiting to pay at the slow machines. Cost is $2 per hour.Cost to enter pier is $1 or $3 for fishing.
