Sugar Sand Park in Boca Raton is an amazing park and will definitely give you and your family a wonderful morning or afternoon! Amidst a bounty of tropical plants and shady trees, a huge wooden playground stands, with a splash pad in the middle and gizmos all about. Kids won't believe their eyes! They can run round and round the tunnels and turrets of the wooden castle, testing out each techie station as they go along. There are swings and unique climbing contraptions, plus a giant face that they can walk inside. Tons of families from Boca Raton gather to enjoy the fun, many bringing swimsuits so they can blast each other with the water guns at the splash pad (this is too intimidating for cautious kids).
On the northern corner of the playground there is a lit-up track that lets kids try to outrun a jaguar, tortoise, or elephant, as the lights move at the speed of those animals- it's a blast!
Beside the playground is a beautiful carousel. And near it is the Children's Science Explorium ($5 donation) that has wonderful rotating hands-on exhibits for kids- adults love it just as much! This just rounds out your morning so that you've had a little indoor and a little outdoor time, without having to leave the park!!
There are some short walking trails in the park, with a mix of asphalt and wood chip paths. The views of pine forest and clusters of palms are lovely from the paths.
Another top playground in Boca Raton is Patch Reef Park, with a ton of playgrounds side by side, where kids are entertained for hours!
Afterwards, have a delicious sandwich at Whole Foods Market, sitting at their outside tables under the palm trees. Or, before you get to the park, have an incredibly yummy warm nutella and strawberry crepe (the other crepes aren't as good) at Juice and Java Fresh Kitchen, and some fresh juicer juice!
For a beach with a coconut-tree lined boardwalk, drive over to Deerfield Beach. To escape the heat, hang out on the couches at Town Center Mall where you can grab a snack at Cafe Gelato Panini.
A fun thing for kids that's twenty minutes away is the shark feeding at Sandoway Discovery Center in Delray Beach.
