Hilltop Community Park is high up by some powerlines in Rancho Penasquitos. It has a large field with sweeping views, though what you see below is plain- just the sprawl below. There are two playgrounds on sand, a walking path around the field, and workout stations along the path. The play area is traditional with a toddler playground, long large playground, cable, play house, baby swings and regular swings. An elephant sculpture is a fun addition. There is another newer playground with shade canopies- it has lots of climbing areas, including a small rock climbing area, and more swings. There are picnic pavilions throughout the park with views of hills nearby. Many neighbors come to walk the walking path in the late afternoon. People look a bit grumpy here, but one nice thing is that there is a little more sunshine here, when Del Mar is still socked in with fog. Rubio's Coastal Grill, nearby, has good mango avocado salads, though the shopping center where it is located is quite dreary, in shades of pale grey. For a colorful shopping center with cafes, drive to One Paseo.
A park with a cozy, more magical feel, is Rolling Hills Park, a twelve minute drive east.
There is a new shopping area coming to PQ (Rancho Penasquitos) soon called Merge 56, so stay tuned.
Hilltop Community Park is located at 9711 Oviedo Way, San Diego, CA 92129. There is a parking lot with free parking.
