Point Loma by the beach is a vibrant neighborhood of mansions on the hills and condos filled with people in their 20s by the beach. The grid system streets have adorable houses with gardens full of flowers, and streets leading down to lookout points over the ocean. It is magical! Come in spring when the gardens are just popping with color. You can spend hours just checking out one lovely scene after another. Afternoon is the best time since the mornings are foggy. I started on Del Mar Ave at the top of the hill, then walked to the lookout point at the end of Del Mar Ave. From there I walked north to the end of Santa Cruz Ave. Here you can take stairs down to a stunning cove, Casablanca Cove and walk north along the rocks to some tide pools. As the day comes to an end, more people gather to enjoy nature. Surfers make their way happily to the waves, and joggers run by. It's a fun atmosphere.
After, have a meal in the sweet garden area of Peace Pies, a six minute drive east. Usually I don't like vegan cafes that much but their tuna wrap is wrapped in an amazing green wrap that is so natural and thin. The flavors they create at Peace Pies are delicious! The wrap comes with kale chips that are pure kale with so much flavor! Finish off your meal with a slice of pie such as Lemon Blueberry Pie, all vegan. It tastes so good! Open daily 11-8.
For a beautiful spot, check out Sunset Cliffs nearby, a six minute drive south.
I started my walk at the top of a steep hill, on the corner of Del Mar Ave and Santa Barbara Street, around 4398 Del Mar Ave in Point Loma. You can park your car along the road.
