Village of La Jolla is a few blocks back from the amazing cliffs and coves of La Jolla, on hilly streets. The streets themselves are old, so there is a weird mix of old rundown places, and expensive shops and cafes. The highlight is Mary, Star of the Sea Church. There are also colorful coffee shops and cafes where you can hang out at their outdoor seating.

The cafes are pricey but good. Check out Puesto, a trendy Mexican restaurant with outdoor seating. For takeout from there, ask for their special prices on takeout burritoes, in order to save some money, and have a picnic by the beach. Parakeet Cafe has a colorful though small interior with parakeet wallpaper, and a nice outdoor seating area. They have many gluten-free options for pastries, plus avocado toast on really good bread. I like their Immunitea, a lemon turmeric drink. Better Buzz is an awesome coffee shop with a wide open-air interior and cute decor. There is also Pete's Coffee, Nekter Juice Bar, and Fruititude, another juice place. Lean & Green La Jolla has healthy bowls. Public House has unique beers and a wooden patio area. Indigenous By La Rue is a decor store with carved wooden items from abroad. Next door, Parisien Gourmandises has cute toys and books for kids.
Check out Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church, a white-washed church with Spanish towers and an excellent nativity scene at Christmastime. This is a special place. Inside you can light a candle under a beautiful sculpture of Mary and baby Jesus, who looks so content. The best part of all is the stained glass window scene of Mary breastfeeding Jesus- what a beautiful idea. There is also a gorgeous rose window with the prettiest colors. I spent a long time here, reflecting on my goals and travels, and giving thanks.
Do the La Jolla Cove Walk after your visit to Village of La Jolla, and you'll be full of joy!
UCSD is not far from here, and that is why you see students in the coffee shops!
