You need a lot of shade to walk in Florida during the extremely hot months (April-Dec). And you need to walk early in the morning before it reaches 85 degrees! So the best walks have thick morning shade. This walk on Gomez Ave in Hobe Sound is a good one for that reason. There is plenty of shade to your east, provided by trees and tropical landscaping.
Park in the first parking lot at Peck Lake Park and then walk south on SE Gomez Ave. There is beautiful landscaping along this stretch. Near the end of the walk, turn left on SE Crossrip St to connect back up with SE Gomez Ave. The sidewalk lasts a little longer on the shady side of the road, until about 9000 SE Gomez Ave. Once it ends, turn around and make your way back to your car. This walk is 2 miles in total.
The trees are lovely along this walk, and there are plenty of happy people, mostly elderly, taking a stroll or bike ride.
This is not a walk you would come especially for, but if you're in the area, or if you want to extend your Peck Lake Park walk, then this is a good one. The Peck Lake Park walk leads to the intracoastal to a huge gazebo overlooking the water.
It can be a little deserted on the northern section of this walk so bring a friend.
Park at Peck Lake Park and walk south on SE Gomez Ave, east on SE Crossrip St, and then south on SE Gomez Ave again. After the sidewalk on the east side of the road ends, after a mile of walking, turn around and go back to your car.
The address for Peck Lake Park is SE Peck Lake Park.
The red tab on the map is at the end of the walk, where you turn around.
