Hobe Sound Hill Trail, officially named Hobe Sound Scrub Preserve, is not a scrub preserve at all! Instead of low-lying scrub that you imagine with its official name, it has tall trees that provide lots of shade, plus a lovely hill to climb. It is as close as you can get to a trek in Florida! Because it is loose sand once you get to the hill, it is quite strenuous. In total, the hike lasts for one kilometer.

You start at the parking lot where there is a workout station so you can add extra exercise to your outing! You walk the crushed shell trail in the shade of tall trees, parallel to houses on Saturn Ave, though you rarely see them through the trees. At the end of the crushed shell trail is another, better workout station! A gazebo is also located there, plus an entrance to Saturn Ave. Here you will find a big yellow sand dune! Kids love climbing it!
Backtrack a little and take the loose white sand trail to the top of the hill! Here on the hills of Hobe Sound is white sand from ancient appalachia. The trail is flanked with funny-looking green mushrooms! At the top of the hill, it's fun to look out on trees in the neighborhood from above. This trail makes a loop back to the parking lot.
After, have a cup of coffee or tea and share a donut (freshly delivered from Jupiter Donuts) at Hobe Sound Social and Coffee in Hobe Sound town, which has cute outdoor seating. The seating catches a nice breeze which comes off the ocean a mile away. The owners are friendly to talk to. It is a two minute drive away, or a ten minute walk along Old Dixie Hwy (which has a sidewalk most of the way, except right by the preserve where you can walk on the grass).
Check out Hobe Sound Beach, where a lively crowd gathers on weekends.
