Beale Street is a happening, neon-lit street famous for its live music. Here, two blocks are filled with cafes, all with live music! You can walk down the blocks, listen to the sounds wafting out of doorways and take your pick. The scene is incredibly vibrant with people everywhere, almost tacky like a fun-fair or Las Vegas. You definitely won't be bored! There are street acrobats leaping on the pedestrian-only strip.
We ended up at Jerry Lee Lewis Honky Tonk Cafe, which was so good that we returned there the second night! The food is so so- try the gumbo for the best choice. But the atmosphere, wow! The performer even set the piano on fire (on a metal plate)! Within minutes, you will be rocking out to the music and wondering why you don't live in Memphis! Join the people on the dance floor and try out your moves! Kids are allowed, which is wonderful as they love the music and the vibe.
Walk toward the river seven blocks west on Beale Street and you'll come to a wonderful riverfront area called Beale Street Landing that is paradise to walk along at sunset. A four minute drive north of Beale Street Landing along the river takes you to the Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid, a Disneyland-style place full of atmosphere where you can take a glass elevator to the top!
If you love music, you will definitely get a lot out of the tour of Sun Studio, a four minute drive away.
The spot to be is the 200 and 300 block of Beale Street.

There are expensive parking lots for tourists, or you can park in the government building on the corner of S. Main St and Dr. M. L. King Jr. Ave, at 82 Dr. M. L. King Jr. Ave, for only a few dollars (closed on Sundays).
