John Denver Beach, or Pacific Grove Marine Gardens Park, is a little beach beside rocks that jut into the sky. Kids love to play on this sheltered stretch of sand. Brave souls can climb the rocks and watch the water swoosh in between. There are colorful stones on the shore, smooth rocks half submerged in the sand, and crystal clear water like jello, a pure delight! Just north is a memorial plaque to John Denver, with a bench. Watch sea lions or sea otters swim by. You are in nature, just as John Denver would have wanted!
From here you can walk along a wonderful clifftop hard-packed dirt path for 1.2 miles, the Perkins Park Walk. It is a stunning walk, taking you to Lovers Point Park beach. If you head west you can walk 1.7 miles past rocky shoreline on the Asilomar Coastal Walk ending up at Asilomar State Beach. This is more foggy, rugged scenery than the majestic Perkins Park Walk.
The Pacific Grove Marine Gardens Park beach parking lot is located at 1231 Ocean View Blvd. The John Denver Memorial parking lot is beside it, at 1247 Ocean View Blvd, Pacific Grove. If these parking lots are full you can also park along the road at 2 Asilomar Ave.
