Howard Park is a lovely park with huge trees, and a fun playground, downtown West Palm Beach. It is nice to walk the curved paths all the way to the lake on the north end- there are many iguanas, birds and ducks! Kids can swing on the vines and hide in the nooks of the banyan trees, plus admire the two fountains in the C-shaped lake.
There are exercise stations along the paths. The playground has a toddler and big kid playground with cool space-age design and tall, twisty slide, plus baby and kids swings. Both playgrounds are covered in big shade canopies.
Kids enjoy seeing the long trains go by. There is a giant pavilion for picnics.
At the south end of the park is Armory Art Center. In front of the side entrance door, on the east side, is a little sculpture garden you can walk around. It's pleasant! Inside, they usually have a small exhibit you can look at for free. The building is musty, but it does host some nice classes.
After, walk the Grandview Heights neighborhood which has cute little streets with tropical trees. You can walk all the way (nine minutes) to Hive, which is a color-lovers dream. It has a high-end home decor store with everything beautifully arranged. And best of all, it is a bakery and cafe, with lovely indoor and outdoor seating. The plates and even paper wrap around the knives and forks are beautiful. Outside, the green umbrellas are memorable, as is the green tropical mural on an adjacent wall. Inside, if you don't want waiter service, you can eat at three unset tables on the far end of the far room, and look out the windows at the beautiful outside area.
Or, drive one minute or walk three minutes from Howard Park to Grandview Public Market to have a snack or cup of tea on their huge, shaded patio. You can then get a selfie at the Love Conquers All Wall behind the public market! Wear pink, black, or what to match the background!
Another nice park for families is Phipps Park, which also has walking paths.
Howard Park is located at 1302 Parker Ave, West Palm Beach, FL 33401. There is plenty of free parking along the road.
