Phipps Park is a city park with baseball and soccer fields, in a busy area along an ugly main road. Soccer players enjoy the park and families gather around to watch. This park has a big hill which is a fun thing to enjoy in flat Florida. Huge banyan trees form a special grove behind the hill. You can stand in the middle of them and feel their ancient energy. A walking trail makes for a fun stroll. It takes you past the banyan tree grove and is also dotted with exercise stations to try out. There is a playground that local kids enjoy. I wouldn't go out of my way to find this park but if you're in the area it's a nice place to check out.
There is also a skate park and roller hockey rink here, and a large shady picnic pavilion near the playground.
Don't confuse this park with a far more beautiful park of the same name, Phipps Ocean Beach Park.
For an awesome, long walk along the intracoastal, check out Flagler Drive walk.
Another nice park for families is Howard Park, with a tall, twisty slide, plus ducks in a lake.
After your walk, have a coffee at Common Grounds, in the Casa Mara apartment complex. It is so nice in there! The seats are soft so you can stay a while. There are big windows with sunlight coming in. They have great tea in glass teapots, and chocolate croissants. And there are lots of young people from Palm Beach Atlantic University on the weekend. The music is also good.
Phipps Park, not to be confused with Phipps Ocean Beach Park, is located at 4715 S Dixie Hwy, West Palm Beach, FL 33405. Park along Dixie Hwy in the parking bay.
