San Diego's beach towns often have a cute street with cafes and shops a few blocks back from the beach. Del Mar's one is called Camino Del Mar. Here you'll find colorful cafes with outdoor seating and shops. Check out Americana Restaurant in a half-timbered German building, Board & Brew, a sandwich shop with a nice patio, Rusty Del Mar Surf Shop on 15th Street, Starbucks with outdoor seating, and Darshan French Bakery, with a patio with glimpses of the sea and good chocolate tarts.
Del Mar Plaza is a stunning upscale plaza on a hill on Camino Del Mar and 15th Street, with a public patio with sun umbrellas overlooking the ocean, and cafes. It also has a very nice, small children's museum called Art + Play Space.
After, take a walk along Seagrove Park and Powerhouse Beach, a perfect beach with cypress trees in a park above the sea. From the top of Seagrove Park, you can walk the Sea Cliff Coastal Trail on vertical cliffs above the ocean, for 1.25 kilometers, on hard-packed dirt. It's beautiful!
The main strip of Camino Del Mar goes from 16th Street in the north to 9th Street in the south. There are slanted parking spaces along the road.
