Seagrove Park has such a good feeling to it! It is at the top of the hill with a lawn and cypress trees, and benches overlooking the sea. The cypress trees give it a Monterey atmosphere. Next, train tracks cross the park (be careful!). Here you find a playground, Powerhouse Playground, with views of the sea. Then there's a wonderful lawn, like a bowl, by the beach- Powerhouse Park. People gather here to enjoy the day. Canary palms and California palms give this a lively feel. The beach itself, Powerhouse Beach, is also full of happy people, surfers, and walkers. This area has it all! I was elated to find it and I will definitely return as soon as I can!

From the top of Seagrove Park, you can walk the Sea Cliff Coastal Trail on vertical cliffs above the ocean, for 1.25 kilometers, on hard-packed dirt. It's beautiful!
Check out the cute main strip a few blocks back from the beach, Camino Del Mar. The cafes and shops go from 16th Street to 9th Street. Browse the clothes in Rusty Del Mar Surf Shop on 15th Street. There is a Starbucks with lovely outdoor seating on the corner of 15th St and Camino Del Mar. Board & Brew, further down Camino Del Mar, has sandwiches and a nice patio. Or, have a chocolate tart at Darshan French Bakery, with outdoor seating, on the south end of Camino Del Mar, an 11 minute walk from the beach.
Del Mar Plaza is a stunning upscale plaza on the hill, two blocks back from the beach, with a public patio with sun umbrellas overlooking the ocean, and cafes. It also has a very nice, small children's museum called Art + Play Space.
The main street a few blocks back, Camino Del Mar, is also lovely to stroll along and dine in a cafe.
Nine minutes drive away are some other shopping centers with nice cafes: One Paseo Plaza and Del Mar Highlands Town Center
Fletcher Cove Beach Park is another nice park, just 7 minutes drive north of here, with a lawn high above the beach.
Here are all the places you can explore if you spend a weekend in Del Mar and Encinitas.
