Cuesta Canyon Park Playground is a tall fun playground in a gorgeous setting, but the freeway noise is just awful! The park is mostly deserted except for a few people going for a short walk. There is a large playground in the outline of a California mission with bell towers and a smaller playground that looks like a wagon, plus swings, baby swings, and a cute horse bouncy. The large playground has a very tall pole climbey. Closer to the freeway is a sand volleyball court. A huge lawn backed by the beautiful mountains that make up the canyon and canary palms makes for lovely views. A pleasing thing to do is to stand below the bridge at the stream. Here you can watch the clear water, and you can't hear the freeway as much over the sounds of the creek.
There are many long picnic tables, huge bbq pits, and smaller picnic tables amid flowers, but all have loud freeway noise.
Come with a friend because the playground is out of view of anyone. The public restroom and tunnel seem sketchy. For a safer, popular park, try Sinsheimer Park Playground, a huge, colorful playground in SLO.
To see the creek from the other side, check out San Luis Neighborhood Walk.
To hike near the creek, just a little north, do the Reservoir Canyon Loop Hike.
This is the same creek that goes through downtown San Luis Obispo, and Mission Plaza, and you can dine and take a little footpath right by it!
Cuesta Canyon Park is located at 2400 Loomis Street in San Luis Obispo. Be careful because the turn for Loomis Street is right after a freeway offramp- you don't want to go the wrong way into traffic coming off the freeway.
There is a large parking lot for this park.
