The wide open spaces of America have great appeal! At Green Valley Viewing Point, you get to feel this. As you drive west on Highway 46 and see the layers and layers of hills and the blue ocean, you just want to stop to take it all in! You must pull into the dirt driveway of the viewing point in quite a hair-raising way. And then you can see views in all directions, including foggy Morro Bay and Morro Rock sticking up out of the mist.
The valleys are only green in April and May. The rest of the year they are golden.
Continue driving toward the ocean for six miles and turn left on Highway 1. Soon you will come to an adorable area that is very worth exploring, Harmony Creamery, Glassworks, and Town. You can eat Moroccan stew chickpea or ice cream at their food trucks (Sat and Sun 11:30-4:30, weather permitting), under umbrellas at cute picnic tables, and browse their glassblowing studio, pottery store, and leather store. Walk into the Irish chapel and feel instant peace.
Then take a 4-mile out-and-back hike at Harmony Headlands State Park (too windy in the afternoon). Or take a short hike to a shipwreck at Estero Bluffs.
On Highway 46, before you get to Green Valley Viewing Point, check out Jack Creek Farms (Fri-Sun 10-5, seasonally), a pristine farm with guided honey or oil and vinegar tastings, lovely views of a leafy hill, and a sweet imagination play area for kids.
Green Valley Viewing Point is along Highway 46, six miles inland. It's nice to start your Highway 46 drive on the Paso Robles side, so you see the ocean the whole way.
