A wonderful experience is to drive 22-mile Highway 46 between Paso Robles and Cambria! You pass wineries and farms to visit, and leafy vistas. Then the road opens up and you are above layers of hills, and views to the blue ocean!
Stop at pristine Jack Creek Farms (Fri-Sun 10-5, seasonally) to do a honey, or oil and vinegar, tasting in the farm store, to pick some fruits at their u-pick, or to take selfies or let your kids play at their Happy Acres play area. Then put Green Valley Viewing Point into google maps GPS, and do the wild pulloff into the dirt parking lot. Here you can take in the wide-open views! It is beautiful. You can even see Morro Rock way off in the distance. In April the hills are green, but any time of year the layers and layers are wonderful.
Next drive to Highway 1. You can either turn right to go to Cambria town or turn left to visit Harmony Town, my absolute favorite. What a delight to see the glassworks store, to step into the profoundly peaceful chapel, and to eat at a picnic table under umbrellas at the ice cream or lunchtime food truck (Sat and Sun 11:30-4:30, weather permitting).
Highway 46 starts just south of Paso Robles or north of Templeton, and goes for 22 miles to Highway 1, just south of Cambria or north of Harmony.
