Pine Ave is the best area of Anna Maria Island! It is a cute little street with Caribbean architecture housing little shops and cafes. The sidewalks are brushed with white sand from the beach! The scene is just idyllic. This area is so much nicer than Bridge Street, which has old, tourist-trap buildings. The north part of Anna Maria Island is definitely nicer than the south part.
There are many food places to try. The Donut Experiment has cake donuts that visitors love- you design the toppings yourself. Poppo's Taqueria (shown above) has delicious burritos made in front of you like at Chipotle- the only thing I didn't like is that they scoop out your burrito fillings with gloves (no utensils) that they then keep on at the cash register. Pizza Social has yummy woodfired pizzas- it's great to buy one and take it to the beach at sunset.
A unique spot on Pine Ave is North Shore Cafe. From the street you see a white house with an attractive surf-inspired logo. But what's hidden is the seating in the back: white adirondack chairs and cute blue and white French-style bistro chairs under a canary palm and many coconut trees. The seating is on a waterway that glistens a jade green. You can watch egrets and blue herons dart back and forth between the trees on either side of the waterway. It is magic! The choices for refreshment are healthy too! Acai bowls and juicer smoothies. Ask for a spoon rather than one of the pesky cardboard straws if you order a juicer smoothie.
On either end of Pine Ave are two marvelous treats! Pine Ave Beach with its amazing white sand like snow, and glorious sunsets. And on the east end, Anna Maria City Pier, a brand new pier that is lit at night and has live music. From here you can see the blue-lit Skyway Bridge and the intracoastal waves lit up by the pier lights. It is bliss. A strong breeze keeps the mosquitoes away.
You could buy a pizza, eat it at the beach during sunset, and then walk along Pine Ave to Anna Maria City Pier to enjoy the nighttime views and live music.
See below for parking details.
Before the bridge that leads over to the island is a nice restaurant on the water with a strong breeze, Floridays Woodfire Grill.
Pine Ave is on the north end, the nicer end of Anna Maria Island. There is free parking for beachgoers along the road on Gulf Dr, Willow Ave and Magnolia Ave, or just in front of the businesses you want to visit (but if you want to go to the beach you can't leave your car for a long time in front of the businesses).
Pizza Social, 308 Pine Ave, Anna Maria, FL 34216.
