The Ramble is a pedestrian-only street, River Road, that follows the blissful intracoastal waterway in front of mansions with lush gardens of coconut trees, banyan trees, and blazing bouganvillea. It's lovely to stroll along with the golf-lovers, residents, and workers from the nearby golf course taking their break. Stop and listen to the sound of the water as the rowboats bob up and down in the waterway and hear the shimmer of the palm trees above. The pedestrian-only part lasts for 500m.

On the south end of River Road, where it meets Grenville Road, is a spot where a red pedestrian bridge leads over to Harbor Island, a tiny island with a dirt path and garden atmosphere. A sweet spot! (April 2022- the bridge is currently being rebuilt). If you continue on Grenville Road you come to Gomez Rd, and this is where the sidewalk begins on Gomez Rd. You can walk for miles, south, on a sidewalk, checking out the mansions and gardens.
On the north end of River Road is Jupiter Island Club, a lovely place to walk around. Here you will see yachts and boats, people playing tennis and lawn bowling. There is a tennis shop, golf shop, and beauty shop, and a white bench on the water under a huge tree. Walk to check out the banyan tree at the roundabout. Continue walking north on Links Rd to enjoy views of ironwood trees, the golf course with a lake and dotted with palms, and gorgeous trees of all varieties. Walk on Palmetto Lane, a shady side lane, to get back to Christ Chapel, and from there you can walk north on South Beach Road. This road has huge Norfolk pines, ironwood trees, banyan trees, lots of shade, and plenty of flowers. There is no sidewalk on South Beach Rd at this point though.
Once you reach Bridge Rd you can enjoy the Banyan Tree Walk.
Other nice streets to walk are Bassett Creek Trail and Bassett Creek Trail North, two dead-end roads with mansions, lined with trees that remind me of France. These roads are shady in the morning, though there are no sidewalks. There is a pretty lake in between them. They are accessed via Gomez Rd, near Bridge Rd.
Also make sure you spend some time at Hobe Sound Beach, which always has people enjoying the technicolor views from under the large picnic pavilion.  Then have a cup of tea in Hobe Sound town at Hobe Sound Social and Coffee. On Fridays and weekends there are plenty of cool people here.
From Hobe Sound Beach you can walk north on North Beach Rd to a secluded beach called Nathaniel Reed Beach or Bonair Beach.
Another great walk, on the mainland not the island, is the Hobe Sound Scrub Preserve which has a yellow sand dunes, workout stations, and shady walking paths through forest.

Directions

You can park for free at Hobe Sound Beach Parking lot and then walk south on South Beach Rd for 1000m or a half-mile. There is no sidewalk at this point and there are many cars. Once you get to Christ Chapel, walk the little path in front of it and continue on Delespine Trail or Palmetto Trail (which is a shadier option). Continue on Links Road, walking this quiet road along the golf course, with great views. Once you reach Jupiter Island Club, continue straight, past the marina and lawn bowling, to The Ramble, the pedestrian-only street, River Road. If you want to continue your walk, you can go over the red bridge to Harbor Island, or continue on River Road which becomes Grenville Rd and then walk south on Gomez Rd, which has a sidewalk at this point. When you get to the corner of Grenville Rd and Gomez Rd, you have walked 1.6 miles. The first half-mile is on a busy road with no sidewalks but the rest of the walk is peaceful.
