Wailea Beach is beautiful at sunset when the sand looks creamy golden in the light, and the sun sets perfectly in front of the beach. You can sit on the large grass mound by the public parking lot and watch the sun go down. It's also wonderful to come early in the morning to walk the Wailea Beach Path and then cool off at the end with a swim!
If you want some shade in the morning, choose the beach to the south, Polo Beach. It has a sand embankment with shade from a highrise building, plus a tree that provides shade. The swim there can be a little more choppy than at Wailea Beach.
If you want a swim where there is no resort (I prefer this), choose Palauea Beach, one beach more south. You park on the street in front of houses and then take the beach access path. This swim is fun, with some medium waves!
After swimming, you always get hungry! Have the most delicious treat ever, a haupia cream acai bowl at Island Vintage Coffee at the lower level of The Shops at Wailea Outdoor Mall.
While in Maui, make sure you eat at Paia Fish Market South Side, at Kihei Kalama Village. It is a twelve minute drive north.
An excellent aquarium 24 minutes north is Maui Ocean Center, a good place to go in the middle of the day when you've had enough sun.
Park your car in the Public Parking for Wailea Beach Access. This is a shady parking lot with an overflow parking lot behind it.
The address is 3894 Wailea Alanui Dr, Kihei, HI 96753. This parking lot is open daily 7am-7pm.
