Wai'ale Falls Hike and Lookout, Hilo
Wai'ale Falls Hike, or Waiale Falls, is a difficult, short hike (600 meters) in gorgeous rainforest, on a bank above the Wailuku River. The trees and plants are so interesting here! The hard part is that you must climb over tall, slippery tree roots and it's quite a wild experience. Keep going though, because it's worth it to be at the top of the waterfall at the end!
This hike is quite handy, because if anyone in the group doesn't want to do it, they can stay behind and enjoy the wonderful view of the waterfalls from the highway bridge!
The drive to the hike is part of the fun, past lovely views in the heights above Hilo town. Also, in this neighborhood above Hilo is University Heights Park, with a tall hill kids like to climb and views of Mauna Loa, Kaumana Caves Lava Tube, Rainbow Falls and next to it, Boiling Pots Lookout.
Don't swim in these areas, because besides catching leptospirosis, you can get sucked into lava tubes below the water.

Wai'ale Falls Hike is located at 2070 Waianuenue Ave, Hilo. You park along the road, and the trailhead is at the north end of the highway bridge.
