Celebration, the town created by Disney, has a paved running/walking path that leads through gorgeous Florida jungly vegetation. There are wooden boardwalks through the really jungly parts, plus paths around three lakes. You pass anhinga birds drying their wings, funny birds swimming underwater and popping their heads up, and croaking Pig Frogs (listen to frog sounds here). The path leads a long way and is in the shade- it's a real blessing in an area (SW Orlando) with few places to walk.
There are many different walking paths you can take in Celebration, dedicated paths with no cars. But the main path (called Three Lakes Walk, below) leads from Celebration Lakeside Park to East Crescent Park, and is 1.3 miles in each direction.
You will pass runners, many retired people, tourists, and a few families with strollers.
After, have a break at Starbucks in Celebration Town Center.
On the weekend, come early in the day to beat the crowds and easily find a parking spot. This way you can beat the heat as well!
Hold hands with your child when walking here because there are lots of alligators! I have seen one every day I have walked here, and sometimes two!
Six months ago I printed out google maps of all of Celebration and began marking off the streets I've walked. I've now walked every street in Celebration so I have prepared some walks for you, the best streets and boardwalks to check out. Bring your phone with google maps GPS set to "walk" so you can find your way back if you get lost!:
Walk 1- Three Lakes Walk- this is the walk described above. Park at 800 Celebration Ave along the street, near Stetson University. Head over to Starbucks. Walk along the lake boardwalk. Check out Market Street while you're here. Continue past Kilwin's Ice Cream and the splash pad on the lake. Continue along the canal (skip the canal part and go right over the bridge to Lakeside Park and onto the lakeside path if you want to shorten the walk). At the end of the canal, turn right onto the pedestrian bridge, and dive into the forest path behind the tennis courts. When you come out at the lakeside path, turn left and walk around the lake. Dive into the next forest path (turn left onto a wooden boardwalk) to the next lake, and again onto a wooden boardwalk to the next lake. At the end of the third lake, head to East Crescent Park and then walk up Eastlawn Dr (if it's a hot day just go back the way you came since Eastlawn Dr is not shady) past mansions. Here there are gorgeous cypress trees in a lake. Turn right on Celebration Ave and follow it under a thick canopy of oak trees, back to your car. This is a three mile walk.
Walk 2- Long Boardwalk Walk- Park your car inside Evander Square apartments fairly near Malvern Hill Park. Walk through parking lot to the southeast corner of the complex and you will find a pond, tropical forest, and a walking trail. Turn left when you pass the gazebo and get to the T in the boardwalk. This is a long wooden boardwalk of amazing beauty! Continue along it until you reach Celebration Ave (turn back now if you only want to do a 2.2 mile walk). Turn left on Celebration Ave and pass a memorial park and then a beautiful lake on your left. Once you get to Spring Park, walk the narrow forest trail through the park. Then turn left on Spring Park Loop and walk a U past the mansions. Do a little detour on Abelia Street to check out the Downey Park fountain, but then go back to Spring Park Loop. Dive into the paved forest path at 931 Spring Park Loop. Turn left on the path and follow it all the way to a neighborhood. Turn left again and follow the path to a lake with swans. Follow the lake path (this part is only shady in the afternoon). You will end up in Evander Square apartments. Walk past their two lakes, one with a tall fountain. And head back to the southeast corner where your car is. This is a 3.5 mile walk.
Walk 3- North Village Mansions Walk- Park at Charleston Place and follow Celebration Blvd to Eastpark Drive. This road leads along a pretty lake. At the bridge over the lake, turn right and then turn right again on Acadia Terrace. Turn right on Acadia Lane and check out the amazing mansions including the pink Victorian mansion at the end of the culdesac. You can also check out the two ends of Acadia Terrace which are both culdesacs with mansions. Head back to Eastpark Drive and follow it along the second lake (that you haven't seen yet). Turn left at the huge roundabout and left again on Celebration Blvd and follow it back to your car. You can dive into the side streets and check out the cute houses if you want to extend your walk. This is a two mile walk.
Walk 4- Aquila Loop Afternoon Walk- The lake part is shady in the afternoon. Park at 1217 Aquila Loop. Continue along Aquila Loop past mansions. Take the wooden boardwalk bridge to the other side of the lake. Here you will find gorgeous cypress trees with knees sticking up in the water- magical! Turn left to dive into the forest. Turn left on Oak Shadows Rd. Turn right on White Moss Lane and immediately right, into the forest. At the end of the forest path, make a circle around the pond to enjoy the scenery. Then turn right on Oak Pond Drive. Follow Oak Pond Drive and then turn left on Deer Woods Road. Continue on Deer Woods Road and take the gorgeous path through the park. Lovely trees! Turn right on Oak Shadows Rd. Turn left into the forest path. In the forest, turn left twice. You will end up on Aquila Loop and can head back to your car.
Walk 5- Corpus Christi Church Walk- Park in front of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and take the forest path that you enter from Celebration Ave, on the south end of the church. There are often deer here! Continue along the forest path to the end. You come out at a culdesac and turn right to follow a path behind the little pond. This sends you back into the forest on a wooden boardwalk. You will come out at Maiden Terrace and turn left on Maiden Terrace.Turn left on Pawstand Rd and left again on Banks Rose St. Turn left into the little culdesac, Banks Rose Ct, and enjoy the cute views of the canary palm tree and forest behind. Continue along Banks Rose Street and enjoy Central Park, a little park with bird house and red wooden bench swing. Walk around the park's paths and then continue on Banks Rose Street to Celebration Ave. Turn right on Celebration Ave and head back to your car. This is a one mile walk. Make it longer by continuing on Celebration Ave and turning left on Westpark Dr. Take all the little side streets/culdesacs off Westpark Dr enjoying the pretty gardens inside each white picket fence. Westpark Dr circles around the golf course (you might see birds, ducks, or an alligator here) to Greenbrier Ave. Turn right and Greenbrier Ave will lead you back to Westpark Dr. Turn left on Westpark Dr and follow it to Celebration Ave. Turn right on Celebration Ave and head back to your car. This adds another 2 miles to your walk and it is a very quiet area with not many other pedestrians.
Walk 6- Art Deco Sunset Walk- You can feel like you're in Miami while you're in Orlando! On Celebration Blvd between World Drive and Waterside Drive there are some awesome Art Deco-style buildings. Starting at World Drive, where you get off Highway 4, you will find an Art Deco 7-Eleven gas station and an Art Deco McDonalds! Sunset is when you want to come since the buildings look stunning against the pink and purple sky, and then at night they are lit up like out of a Superman movie. Rows of tall California palms stretch above you, also looking wonderful silhouetted against the sunset sky. The Art Deco style ends around Waterside Dr. Then you can head back to your car. This walk is two miles total.
Walk 7- Golfpark Drive Walk- Start at the adorable round post office on Market Street. Walk north up Water Street. Check out the little canal with venetian bridges and ducks. There are lilies and little waterfalls in the water. When you get to the golf course, take the path along the water, to the west until you reach Camellia Street. Walk south on Camellia Street, past a little square with flowers called Veranda Park, past a cute playground called Long Meadow Park, and a square with a Spanish fountain. Turn left on Mulberry Ave and walk up Water Street again, on the other side of the water. Turn right on Golfpark Drive and follow it along the water, admiring the herons and egrets, and the mansions on the other side of the road. These are often decorated well for various holidays. Turn right on Arbor Circle and walk the entire circle, enjoying the views of the forest in the middle of the circle (called Arbor Park- you can walk a boardwalk through it), and the amazing mansions around you. Cross Celebration Ave, and admire the California look of the Mirasol apartments entrance. Continue east along Celebration Ave and then along Front Street. There are lovely trees and lilies along the canal here. Take Market Street back to your car. You can get a juicer juice, ice cream at Kilwin's, or meal in Celebration Town, which centers around Market Street. This is a 2.2 mile walk.
It's best to park at 800 Celebration Ave and walk over to Starbucks to start the walk. There are many different directions you can walk, but the main path is along the three lakes, between Celebration Lakeside Park and East Crescent Park, 1.3 miles in each direction. Use google maps GPS set to "walk" to find the various spot in the walks above.
